MONROE – Monroe officials reported 19 new positive COVID-19 cases on April 22, bringing the total number of cases in the township to 363, according to the Monroe Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

The cases include 11 females – a 20 year old, a 23 year old, a 40 year old, a 47 year old, a 67 year old, a 69 year old, a 76 year old, a 79 year old, an 83 year old, an 86 year old, and a 92 year old. Officials also reported the township has 50 total deaths, 38 from long-term care facilities, according to statistics from the Middlesex County Department of Health.

“As we all know, and as my colleague Mayor [Brad] Cohen in East Brunswick points out, these numbers do not reflect actual disease as many people may be asymptomatic, have mild experiences, or are unable to be tested,” Mayor Gerald Tamburro said. “There is still a shortage of tests in our state and test results continue to lag five to seven days.”

Monroe OEM has reviewed the locations of cases in Monroe, outside of the private long-term care facilities, and determined cases are distributed throughout the town and there does not seem to be a cluster in any one location.

The COVID-19 drive-thru testing site at MyInstaDoc, 298 Applegarth Road, will serve pre-registered patients from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and drive-up patients from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Testing resumes on April 25. Pre-register at www.myinstadocmonroe.com or call 609-207-3220 to speak with a medical professional.

A directory of restaurant, food service and grocery stores are available on the township website, www.monroetwp.com, or call Eileen Biennas at 732-521-4400 ext. 114 or email her at ebiennas@monroetwp.com.
