MILLTOWN – Food pantries at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and United Methodist Church are seeking volunteers to distribute food and toiletry donations.

Milltown Mayor Trina Mehr said the churches received a tremendous response for their requests for donations during her COVID-19 update to residents on April 23. She said interested volunteers can call St. Paul’s United Church Christ, 62 S Main Street, at 732-828-0020 and/or United Methodist Church, 47 N Main Street, at 732-828-0610.

Volunteers are needed from 6-7 p.m. on April 27 and from 4-7 p.m. on April 28 and April 30. The food/toiletry items will be distributed for pick up from 5-7 p.m. on April 28 and April 30. More dates are expected in the weeks ahead.

Mehr updated residents on COVID-19 cases and borough news. Milltown has a total of 52 positive cases of COVID-19, and two deaths, according to Middlesex County on April 25.

The mayor said borough services are continuing through the pandemic with modifications in schedules to keep employees safe. Mehr noted a Nixle message went out on April 20 notifying the public clerical staff at Borough Hall will work from home for the next two weeks after a report of employees testing positive for COVID-19.

“We always take the safety and health [of our employees] very seriously,” she said. “We had as many people working from home as possible already. We had split shifts for DPW and the police department.”

Mehr said she will keep residents and local businesses updated on federal, state and county resources
