Woodbridge officials reported 52 new positive COVID-19 cases

WOODBRIDGE – Woodbridge officials reported 52 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the total of cases in the township to 1,121, according to Mayor John McCormac in his daily report on April 24.

“Taking away the daily totals for March before testing really started to ramp up, today’s number is higher than any average we can draw from the prior days, weeks or month,” he said. “It is two rough days in a row which we have not had since April 9 and 10.”

The township saw 74 new positive coronavirus cases on April 23.

“There is no doubt that the number of tests being done has increased, especially with entities like Rutgers [University] now offering speedy results from saliva testing,” he said. “The State of New Jersey and County of Middlesex have reported higher numbers also recently with the county showing its highest daily total yesterday since the counts began so we are not alone showing these very troubling numbers.”

The total number of COVID-19 deaths stands at 32. McCormac noted several Reports Under Investigation, or RUIS, were closed out in the last day and not because the township had a sudden jump in cases.

“Most of these date back a week or more,” he said. “We still trail the state and county in cases and deaths on a per capita basis. Still, 32 deaths of our friends. relatives and neighbors is very sad and we need to make sure we keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

The mayor said the continued rise in a number of COVID-19 cases reminds everyone to continue to stay diligent in following the new rules about social distancing, only leave the house for essential needs, and follow personal hygiene guidelines as well as to properly dispose masks, gloves and wipes in the trash

He continues to urge neighbors to check on people who live alone and cannot leave their homes.

The township has an updated list of virtual religious services with dates and times on the township’s website.
