Quick detective work led to an arrest of man for alleged bank robberies in Edison

EDISON – Quick detective work after a robbery in progress at Capital One Bank on Route 1 led to an arrest of a Manville man, according to Police Chief Thomas Bryan.

Police responded to the robbery in progress at 10:15 a.m. on April 27. Police detectives Michael Michalski and Wilfredo Brown, through review of video surveillance, were able to determine the suspect allegedly fled in an Edison cab, police said.

And through further investigation, the suspect was located at the Oyo Hotel on Route 1 and placed under arrest. A court order obtained to search the suspect’s belongings revealed proceeds from the bank robbery on April 27, but also evidence from a bank robbery at Columbia Bank, also in the township, which occurred on March 11, Bryan said.

“I am extremely proud of the detectives who were able to utilize their superior investigative techniques to track down the suspect and take him into custody,” the chief said.

The suspect, who was charged with the bank robbery on April 27 and March 11, was processed and transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick.
