WOODBRIDGE – Woodbridge officials reported 32 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the township to 1,263, according to Mayor John McCormac in his daily report on April 28.
The St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility, which has since moved residents back to the facility, saw one additional positive COVID-19 case to bring the total number of cases to 47. The township is reporting statistics from the nursing home separately.
The residents at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home devastated by COVID-19 were initially counted in the township’s statistics before residents were moved to another facility out of town on March 25. On April 16, residents started moving back home after a massive cleaning effort.
“Yesterday’s count of six from Sunday was clearly an outlier and it was not because it represented a Sunday count because our second worst day was a Sunday with 80 three weeks ago,” McCormac said. “The count of 32 is not far from our recent two week average of about 36, which is positive news.”
The township has lost 46 residents to COVID-19 plus 15 from St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
With requests for statistics in the 10 individual sections of the township, the mayor said officials are not permitted to share any detailed information about the cases; however, said the cases have no noticeable trends.
McCormac said as of April 27, the township’s additional drive for monetary donations and food contributions to We Feed Woodbridge has produced over $35,000 and more than 5,000 pounds of food. We Feed Woodbridge distributes the funds and donations to the 11 food banks in the township.
“That is simply tremendous and we appreciate everything you all have done,” he said.
The students of Woodbridge High School have started Woodbridge Cares to partner with their colleagues from Colonia High who started the Colonia Cares program. The Colonia Cares group has already raised over $20,000. All the proceeds are turned into gift cards from local stores and restaurants, which are then donated to local food banks as well as Woodbridge Social Services.
