WOODBRIDGE – Woodbridge officials reported 27 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the township to 1,349, according to Mayor John McCormac in his daily report on May 2.

“[The new number of cases] is just a tad below our rolling seven day average, but well below our average number for the last 30 days,” he said. “Thankfully there are no additional deaths to report.”

The St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility positive COVID-19 cases remain at 47. The township is reporting statistics from the nursing home separately.

The residents at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home devastated by COVID-19 were initially counted in the township’s statistics before residents were moved to another facility out of town on March 25. On April 16, residents started moving back home after a massive cleaning effort.

The township has lost 60 residents to COVID-19, which includes residents from St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.

The township’s drive to raise funds for We Feed Woodbridge, which distributes food and monetary donations to the 11 food banks in the township, has raised more than $50,000 in less than two weeks plus several thousand pounds of food.

“That is unbelievable,” McCormac said. “More and more people are in need of food on a daily basis and we are very fortunate that we are able to help them.”

The mayor recognized Shell Oil, Ashland, Piyush Patel, Martin Genser, Sandeep Tanwar for donations of supplies including gloves, masks, sanitizer and face shields.

A list of virtual religious services is on the township’s website.

The mayor continues to urge neighbors to check on people who live alone and cannot leave their homes and to continue to follow the rules and guidelines for social distancing, good personal hygiene, proper disposal of trash and avoiding non-essential travel.
