WOODBRIDGE – Woodbridge officials reported 14 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the township to 1,363, according to Mayor John McCormac in his daily report on May 3.

“The township finished off a very low week with our second lowest day [of new COVID-19 cases] in the last five weeks,” he said. “Our seven day total in the week ending today was 138 compared to the last four full weeks at 321, 224, 379 and 231.”

The mayor said the last time the township had seven days in a row of low number of cases was in March,

“We are very thankful that the numbers are starting to fall, but we still keep all those who are sick in our thoughts and prayers,” he said.

The St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility positive COVID-19 cases remain at 47. The township is reporting statistics from the nursing home separately.

The residents at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home devastated by COVID-19 were initially counted in the township’s statistics before residents were moved to another facility out of town on March 25. On April 16, residents started moving back home after a massive cleaning effort.

The township has lost 60 residents to COVID-19, which includes residents from St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.

McCormac, in his report, reminded the public large gatherings, games or sports practices are not allowed at the parks. He said the police department and school security employees will be out enforcing social distancing rules.

He warned residents of phone call scams to gain access to personal financial information especially from senior citizens.

“Do not fall for any attempt to get your information,” he said. “Your grandson or granddaughter is not in jail and they are not in the hospital and they do not need you to secretly send gift cards or money. If someone tells you not to tell anyone, that’s the sign that it is a fake call and please do not fall for it.”

The mayor continues to urge neighbors to check on people who live alone and cannot leave their homes and to continue to follow the rules and guidelines for social distancing, good personal hygiene, proper disposal of trash and avoiding non-essential travel.
