Sheriff’s office divisions seek to maintain national accreditation

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Division, Communications Division and Monmouth County Police Academy are undertaking a virtual assessment process to maintain national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

With national accreditation, the Law Enforcement Division, Communications Division and Police Academy are able to compare and evaluate their operations against nationally accepted standards of practice, and continuously upgrade the divisions’ and academy’s performance, according to a press release.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office was the first sheriff’s office in the nation to accomplish Five Star Accreditation for simultaneous accreditation of the Law Enforcement Division, Communications Division, Youth Detention Center, Correctional facility and Correctional Healthcare, according to the press release.

As part of a multi-program virtual assessment by CALEA representatives, Sheriff’s Office employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments on May 12 between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon by calling 732-431-6400, ext. 1665 for the Law Enforcement Division and 732-431-6400, ext. 1650 for the Communications Division
and Police Academy. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments are limited to five minutes and must address the Law Enforcement Division, Communications Division and Police Academy’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the law enforcement and communications standards are available for review at the Public Safety Center, 2500 Kozloski Road, Freehold Township.
