Water company awards grant to Howell community garden

HOWELL – New Jersey American Water has announced the recipients of its 2020 Environmental Grant Program and an initiative in Howell is one of the recipients.

This year, the company has awarded a total of $35,238 to four organizations and community groups within its service area that are engaged in sustainability projects to improve water source protection or watershed protection, according to a press release.

The Howell Organic Community Garden was awarded $6,550 for the implementation of a water conservation drip irrigation and fabric for the township’s community garden which donates fresh produce to community groups, according to the press release.

“Now in its 12th year, our environmental grant program has provided more than
$353,000 in needed support for 43 projects to help improve, restore and protect our
valuable natural resources through partnerships,” said Matthew Csik, director of
water quality and environmental compliance.

“We are proud to recognize this year’s recipients and we applaud their efforts to make a lasting impact on their communities and New Jersey as a whole,” Csik said.

New Jersey American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing water and/or waste water services to approximately 2.8 million people, according to the press release.
