WOODBRIDGE – Woodbridge officials reported 12 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the township to 1,405, according to Mayor John McCormac in his daily report on May 6.
“We can’t explain it, but we will take it as Woodbridge had its second lowest daily count since April 1,” he said, adding many residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have already recovered or are in recovery. “That is all great news, but we still have to be diligent about wearing masks, staying home, social distancing and practicing good personal hygiene. Even when this is all over we should still check on the elderly and others living alone and people of all ages should be careful not to reveal personal or financial information to someone you do not know.”
The St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility positive COVID-19 cases remain at 47. The township is reporting statistics from the nursing home separately.
The residents at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home devastated by COVID-19 were initially counted in the township’s statistics before residents were moved to another facility out of town on March 25. On April 16, residents started moving back home after a massive cleaning effort. On May 4, the last resident has moved back to the facility.
The township has lost 60 residents to COVID-19, which includes residents from St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
McCormac in his report recognized Nurse’s Appreciation Day, Teacher Appreciation Day and recognized local businessman Mahesh Shah for his $2,500 contribution to We Feed Woodbridge Food Bank, which donates funds and donations to the 11 food banks in the township. We Feed Woodbridge has surpassed $60,000 in total contributions.
