Mercer County residents who believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19 but who are not displaying any symptoms may now be tested at one of Mercer County’s three testing sites, Mercer County officials announced on May 20.

Any resident who has a physician’s prescription for a COVID-19 test is eligible to be tested on an appointment basis, officials said. Initially, only Mercer County residents who were showing symptoms of COVID-19 and who had a physician’s prescription would be tested.

“We want to be able to test more people, so we are opening it up to asymptomatic residents, provided they have a prescription,” Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes said. “If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 but do not have any symptoms, you can now get tested at our sites.”

The tests are administered at an appointment-only, drive-through testing site in the parking lot across the street from the Mercer County Administration Building at 640 S. Broad St. in Trenton, or at appointment-only, walk-up testing sites in Trenton and Hightstown.

The Trenton walk-up sites are open in each of the city’s four wards one day a week. The Hightstown walk-up testing center is open every Friday at noon in the parking lot at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 156 Maxwell Ave.

Mercer County residents who want to be tested must contact their primary care physician. If a test is needed, the physician will fax a prescription to the Mercer County health call center, which in turn will contact the resident to schedule an appointment.

Residents who do not have a primary care physician can call the Henry J. Austin Health Center at 609-278-5900. They will be put in touch with a physician by phone or video.

There is no charge for testing at any of the Mercer County testing sites.
