On May 19, the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (VNAHG) announced it had cared for its 600th patient infected with COVID-19 since the outbreak began.
VNAHG has been providing comprehensive care in the home and community for COVID-19 patients. The overarching goal of VNAHG’s COVID-19 efforts has been to protect patients and employees while playing a critical role in helping to get people home safely from hospitals and nursing facilities, according to a press release.
Working with its joint venture health system partners and community relationships, VNAHG was one of the first home health and hospice care organizations to take COVID-19 referrals from hospitals and nursing facilities and treat patients who are stable enough to return to their home, according to the press release.
A team of nurses volunteered to be trained to treat COVID-19 patients and help develop a safe clinical protocol to provide high quality care at home for COVID-19 patients.
The team is overseen and supported by a medical director who specializes in geriatric medicine, as most of the home COVID-19 patients have been older adults. Telehealth visits have been added to patient care plans, and virtual visits and remote monitoring are being deployed, according to the press release.
Friendship Circle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and young adults with special needs, announced that its annual Walk4Friends fundraiser will be held virtually this year.
The fundraiser usually takes place in Holmdel and attracts 1,500 attendees. This year, the event has been reinvented to allow the walk to continue with social distancing protocols in place. Walk4Friends 2.0 (Quarantine Style) will be held on June 14 at noon, according to a press release.
Participants can register at www.walk4friends.com. Upon registration, participants will have the opportunity to receive a T-shirt and a family fun pack that includes activities to do on the day of the walk.
The event will begin at noon when participants can join a live feed to hear a message from Friendship Circle’s director and enjoy pre-walk entertainment.
At 1 p.m. the virtual walk will begin and families will be encouraged to take a 5K walk, run or bicycle ride. Participants are encouraged to take photographs during their walk and upload them to Friendship Circle’s Facebook page using #Walk4Friends2.0
Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, has announced that its Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will open May 30 and operate daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
Advance tickets and reservations are required, and the experience will incorporate new safety procedures for guests and team members.
Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will take guests on a self-guided journey through 1,200 exotic animals from six continents. From the safety and privacy of their own vehicle, guests will slowly wind through 350 acres and 11 simulated natural habitats, seeing animals such as giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, tigers, bears and baboons, according to a press release.

Per state, local and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19, the theme park and waterpark will remain closed until further notice, according to the press release.
