Mayor honors resident for decades of service to Allentown

ALLENTOWN – Mayor Thomas Fritts has paid tribute to a lifelong resident who spent decades serving the community in volunteer positions with the Allentown First Aid Squad and the Hope Fire Company.

During the May 26 meeting of the Allentown Borough Council, Fritts spoke about Carol Floyd, who died at the age of 69 on May 17 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton.

According to an obituary posted online by the Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, Floyd was born in Trenton and was a lifetime Allentown area resident. She was a graduate of Allentown High School and the Princeton Nursing School.

Floyd worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for Princeton Hospital for many years. She later worked as a medic for Able Medical Transportation, retiring in 2019.

Floyd was active with the Allentown First Aid Squad, serving as a past captain and currently as the squad’s president, according to her obituary.

“I attended the service for Carol Floyd and had the opportunity to express our heartache and to celebrate her life,” Fritts said. “She has given back to our community in so many ways. She served with the Allentown First Aid Squad and with the Hope Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

“Our hopes and prayers are with her family. Carol was very proud of the community and Allentown will mourn the loss of a resident who grew up here and raised her family here,” the mayor said.

Floyd was the daughter of the late Caroline and Alvin Smith. She was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Robert Floyd, and her sister, Abigail Rogers Smith.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer Floyd of Allentown, and Rebecca and Anthony Muscianesi of South River; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Floyd of Lenoir, N.C.; her grandsons, Alexander and Christopher Muscianesi; her siblings, Alice Stanhope, Ruth Bertagni, Tom Smith, Helen Smith and Richard Smith; and many nieces and nephews, according to her obituary.
