Township Committee introduces bond ordinance for improvements in Manalapan

MANALAPAN – The Township Committee has introduced a bond ordinance that will, if adopted, appropriate $3.24 million for improvements in Manalapan.

The ordinance was introduced on May 13. A public hearing on the ordinance has been scheduled for the committee’s June 10 meeting.

Four votes from the five-member governing body are required to adopt a bond ordinance.

According to the ordinance, the funds will provide for capital improvements and the acquisition of capital equipment, appropriating $3,238,029 and authorizing the issuance of $2.6 million in bonds and notes.

Manalapan officials said they expect to receive $495,000 in grant funds from the New Jersey Department of Transportation and make a $137,152 down payment as part of the appropriation.

The improvements consist of the acquisition of capital equipment including a tri-axle hook truck, backhoe loader and air compressor; buildings and grounds improvements, including the acquisition and installation of new air handlers for the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system; park improvements, including the refurbishment of basketball and tennis courts; a new pavilion; and the planning and design of a new senior/community center;

And, road improvements, including the Gordons Corner Road project; Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramp compliance throughout Manalapan; Poets Annex Phase I – paving, curbing and concrete; improvements to New Beginnings Crossing and sections of Tracy Station Road; and Department of Public Works site remediation – final phase.

Also, the acquisition of technological equipment, including computer replacements and television studio equipment.
