Lawrence Hopewell Trail launches Art on the Trail

Area trail enthusiasts are invited to tap their artistic leanings to feature beauty along the Lawrence Hopewell Trail (LHT).

The goal is to create and share art inspired by the walking and biking trail that runs through Lawrence and Hopewell townships.

The assignment: Take a walk along the trail with a cameras or art supplies; choose subject matter; and create drawings, paintings, videos and photos of scenes along the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.

LHT will share the best artwork on the lhtrail.org website, through social media and in future LHT publications.

The effort, which will run through next spring, will feature a new theme every other month as follows:

• June–July: Landscapes, which can be submitted any time but no later than July 31.

• August–September: Flora, such as a beautiful flower or bush, and fauna, perhaps a favorite critter, submitted by Sept. 30

• October–November: Art inspired by waterways along the trail. Think Rosedale Lake, the D&R Canal, or a puddle on the trail after a rain shower. Submit by Nov. 30

• December–January: Still life of found objects from the trail (sticks, pinecones, a rock pile, etc.). Submit by Jan. 30

• February-March: Architecture along the trail. Maybe a bridge, a fence, a building. Submit by March 31.

  • April-May: Welcome spring with a self portrait on the trail. Submit by May 31

Artists can be of any age. There is no cost to participate in the program.

An internal panel will select from among the newly created art works to spotlight each period. Each selected creator will receive publicity and visibility of their works via the LHT website. Brief descriptions of their efforts, which they are asked to submit when they share their artwork, will be offered as part of the publicity.

When submitting artworks, artists are also asked to share a little about themselves and their creations, such as what medium they used, and to share links to their works or profiles of themselves if they wish.
