TINTON FALLS – The Tinton Falls School District Board of Education has adopted a $35.05 million budget to fund the operation of the school district during the 2020-21 school year.
The budget will be funded in part through the collection of $26.36 million in property taxes from residential and commercial property owners in Tinton Falls and Shrewsbury Township.
The school district’s budget for the 2019-20 school year totaled $34.14 million and was supported by the collection of $25.69 million in taxes from property owners in Tinton Falls and Shrewsbury.
The school district is projected to lose $160,000 in state aid from 2019-20 to 2020-21. The district received $3.34 million in state aid in 2019-20 and expects to receive $3.18 million in state aid in 2020-21.
Administrators said the budget would provide for district-wide upgrades of the wireless network; network security upgrades; an upgrade to virtual server infrastructure; continued maintenance of all existing Promethean Boards, Elmo Document Cameras, laptops, desktops and Chromebooks; and maintaining computer access at 1:1 in grades 3-8 and 2:1 in K-2.
In 2020-21, the school tax rate in Tinton Falls is projected to be 74.13 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The average home in the borough is assessed at $358,195. The owner of that home will pay $2,655 in school taxes during the upcoming year.
In 2020-21, the school tax rate in Shrewsbury is projected to be 82 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The average home in the township is assessed at $162,039. The owner of that home will pay $1,328 in school taxes during the upcoming year.
School taxes are one item on a property owner’s total tax bill. Property owners also pay Tinton Falls or Shrewsbury Township municipal taxes, Monmouth County taxes and Monmouth Regional High School District school taxes.
The amount of taxes an individual pays is determined by the assessed value of his home and/or property and the tax rate that is set by each taxing entity.
According to a budget document posted on the Tinton Falls School District website, there were 1,444 pupils enrolled on Oct. 15, 2018; 1,415 pupils enrolled on Oct. 15, 2019; and the projected enrollment for Oct. 15, 2020 is 1,430 pupils.
