Use of private, public spaces in full effect as outdoor dining reopens in Metuchen

METUCHEN – The use of public and private spaces in downtown Metuchen is in full effect as outdoor dining reopens.

The Borough Council had approved a business revitalization strategy at a meeting on May 26, which went into effect June 15 as per Gov. Phil Murphy.

Outdoor dining is part of the state’s Stage 2 phased-in reopening plan as coronavirus cases continue to decrease.

Metuchen’s Outdoor Dining program expanded on June 19 with two additional venues for safe, outdoor dining.

New Street between Main and Pearl streets closed starting at 4 p.m. on June 19 and will remain closed through 11 p.m. Sunday.

A section of the Station Place parking lot will be closed for outdoor dining. The following restaurants serving customers on New Street include Greek on Main, Torino 2, Lotsa Balls, Nauti Cajun Crab, and Sushi Suzuki. Hailey’s Harp and Pub will serve customers at Station Place.

This schedule is expected to continue each weekend through the summer season.

Borough officials have promoted the plan to the public with the Metuchen Downtown Alliance and Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce.
