SOUTH RIVER–The South River Police Department is reminding residents of its free Unoccupied Residence Program.
Residents can complete and submit a form to let the police department know when a residence will be unoccupied. A police officer will then check on the home as time permits during his or her normal patrol duties, according to a prepared statement from the police department.
This form also allows residents to make the police department aware of any vehicles which will be at the residence, provide it with a resident’s contact information and let the police department know if any friends or relatives will be checking on a resident’s residence while they’re away.
If a resident returns earlier than indicated on the form or their return is delayed, let the police department know by calling 732-238-1000.
This program is intended for residences that are unoccupied due to short-term travel or vacation plans. It is separate from the Borough of South River’s long-term vacant property ordinance, according to the statement.
The unoccupied residence form can be downloaded by visiting www.southriverpd.org or picked up at police headquarters, located at 61 Main St.
Once completed, the form can be faxed to the police department at 732-613-6103 or dropped off 24 hours a day, seven days a week at police headquarters.
The police department’s Unoccupied Residence Program is one of many no-cost programs offered to residents by the South River Police Department. Other free programs offered include Project Medicine Drop, child safety seat inspections, home security inspections, Operation Blue Angel, a Special Needs Registry and an anonymous tip line.
