JACKSON – A 23-year-old male resident of Jackson has been charged with the murder of another 23-year-old resident of the township.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz announced that Jshawn Cutler has been charged with murder in connection with the June 19 death of Isaiah Renouf.
Cutler has also been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and burglary.
On June 19, Jackson police officers responded to a residence on Cannon Boulevard, off Whitesville Road, after a caller to 911 reported that an individual had a stab wound, according to a press release.
Responding officers found Renouf on the floor of the residence with a large wound to his chest. Lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene before Renouf was transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Lakewood, where he died as a result of his injuries, according to the press release.
A post-mortem examination by the Ocean County medical examiner determined the cause of Renouf’s death to be a stab wound to the chest, and the manner of death to be a homicide, according to the press release.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Jackson Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined Renouf and Cutler had an altercation at the residence and that Cutler allegedly stabbed Renouf.
According to the press release, Cutler was later apprehended during a motor vehicle stop in Lakewood. He was initially placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.
“Outstanding teamwork was exhibited by all of the law enforcement officers and agencies involved in this investigation. … Now, our focus is to ensure that justice is done for Mr. Renouf,” Billhimer said.
Township Council President Alexander Sauickie commented on the homicide at the June 23 council meeting. He commended the Jackson Police Department for working with the prosecutor’s office and noted an arrest was made within 24 hours of the crime.
“Our condolences go out to the family who lost a 23-year-old,” Sauickie said.
