South River’s Varga Park will have new playground equipment installed

SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council approved a resolution awarding a contract with Ben Shaffer Recreation Inc. and Whirl Construction to purchase and install playground equipment at Varga Park.

Borough Administrator Art Londensky said platforms, power pipe climbers for ages 2 to 5, swings, climber, player chimes, and a permanent safety surface will be purchased and installed at Varga Park.

“The borough is using two contractors because the project is brought up from two co-ops that we are using so the Bergen County Cooperative Pricing System [Ben Shaffer Recreation Inc.] has the agreement and from the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey co-op Whirl construction has the agreement,” Borough Chief Financial Officer Joseph Zanga said.

The council approved the resolution awarding a contract giving $54,505 to Ben Shaffer Recreation Inc. and $50,699 to Whirl Construction during the council meeting on June 22 via video conference.

With the resolution approved, Zanga said the equipment will be ordered in a few months. Once the equipment arrives it will take a little over two weeks to complete the project.
