Princeton University’s Campus Dining, Office of Community and Regional Affairs and John H. Pace, Jr. ’39 Center for Civic Engagement provided more than 12,500 meals this summer to those who are homeless and those who are in recovery treatment at The Rescue Mission of Trenton.
“The university’s Summer Food and Nutrition Program will be providing about 2,500 meals per week for a little over five weeks this summer,” Mary Gay Abbott-Young, chief executive officer of The Mission, said in a prepared statement. “All of our hearts are lifted at The Mission by the university’s generosity, compassion and commitment to address food insecurity, particularly during this pandemic which is challenging us all like never before.”
Smitha Haneef, assistant vice president, University Services; Paul Dylik, assistant director of campus dining; and David Brown, assistant director of the Pace Center for Civic Engagement at Princeton University collaborated in efforts to benefit Princeton Public Schools, HomeFront, Meals on Wheels of Mercer County and The Mission.
“As I have spoken to each community organization, it has been an extremely humbling experience that we are going to partner with them to serve people in need in the area with healthy, nutritious, freshly prepared meals,” Haneef said in the statement.
Gay added, “We are so very thankful to be in this together with Princeton University.”
