Vehicle leaves roadway, strikes lawn mower along Route 33 in Monroe; driver pronounced deceased

MONROE – A Monroe man was pronounced dead following a motor vehicle accident in which his car left the roadway and struck a tractor mowing in the median.

Marc A. Mandelkorn, 72, was driving a 2019 Hyundai Tucson westbound on Route 33 just east of the intersection with Bentley Road in Monroe. His vehicle reportedly crossed into the median, leaving the roadway for an unknown reason, according to information provided by the Monroe Township Police Department.

The car then struck a New Jersey State Department of Transportation tractor that was mowing in the median, crossed over the eastbound lane of Route 33 and came to the position of final rest on the shoulder of Route 33 east, reports said.

Upon first responder arrival the driver was unconscious and medical aid was rendered. The driver was subsequently transported to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township where he was later pronounced deceased.

The condition of the person mowing the lawn was not known as of press time.

This crash is being investigated by Sgt. Anthony Trohalides and Officer Daniel Mosakowski of the Monroe Township Police Traffic Safety Division. Anyone who might have witnessed this crash should call the Traffic Safety Division at 732-521-0222, ext 126.
