EAST BRUNSWICK–The Township Council introduced an ordinance, which if adopted, will amend the municipal code authorizing residents to pay for first-time offenses online.

Business Administrator Joseph Criscuolo said if the ordinance gets adopted by the council it will allow summonses to be paid online for first-time offenses rather than going to court.

Some first-time offenses that will no longer require an appearance in court include:

  • For disturbing the peace due to dog barking, as a first offense requires a $60 fine.
  • Dog running at large, as a first offense requires a $90 fine.
  • Leashing of dogs, as a first offense, requires a $60 fine.
  • Curbing of dog, as a first offense requires a $60 fine.
  • Restrictions on leaving animals in vehicles, as a first offense requires a $60 fine.
  • No unmonitored dog tethered to vacant structure, as a first offense requires a $60 fine.
  • Vicious dog as a first offense requires a $60 fine in addition to licensing/permit fee.
  • Owner responsible for curbing dogs, as a first offense requires a $60 fine.
  • Peddler, solicitor or itinerant not having a required license, as a first-time offense requires a $60 fine.
  • Noise disturbance across real property boundary, as a first-time offense requires a $60 fine.
  • Operation of refuse compacting vehicle during prohibited hours as a first-time offense requires a $60 fine, according to the council agenda.

The council approved and introduced the ordinance on June 22 during the council meeting via video conference. The second and final reading is scheduled for July 13.

This ordinance will take effect immediately upon final approval and publication as required by law, according to the council.
