EAST BRUNSWICK–A four-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries after drowning in a pool at a residence on the Fourth of July.

At 5:13 p.m. on July 4, the East Brunswick Police Department responded to a home on Sandalwood Drive for a four-year-old drowning victim, according to police.

While officers were responding, police dispatch advised that the child was out of the pool but unresponsive. Upon the officers’ arrival, CPR was being performed on the child by the homeowner, according to police.

Officers, along with Robert Wood Johnson EMS, took over CPR and transported the male child to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with a police escort.

The investigation revealed that a child fell into the pool during a kindergarten graduation party, according to police. When adults realized he was missing, a family member observed him at the bottom of the in-ground pool. The initial investigation determined that the incident was captured on video and was not suspicious, according to police.

The child remained on life support but was pronounced deceased on July 5, according to police.

Just two weeks ago, Bharat Patel, 62, his daughter-in-law Nisha Patel, 33, and her daughter, 8, drowned in a pool at a home on Clearview Road in East Brunswick on June 22. The investigation showed the family did not know how to swim and died trying to save the child.

Earlier this year, on Jan. 22, Yousef Khela, 13, died after falling into an icy pond at the municipal complex in East Brunswick.
