Edison reports black bear sighting in the area of the Middlesex County Greenway traveling towards Metuchen

EDISON – After bear sightings in Metuchen, a black bear sighting has been reported in neighboring Edison.

Edison officials put out a Nixle alert at 4:36 p.m. on July 8 of a black bear sighting in the area of Sagamore Avenue and the Middlesex County Greenway going into Metuchen.

On July 6, sightings of what appeared to be a mama bear and her cub on the Middlesex County Greenway in Metuchen and in borough streets were reported. Park rangers had temporarily shut down the greenway after the reports.

The greenway is a 3.5-mile long paved trail that runs through Metuchen, Edison and Woodbridge.

Metuchen officials provided links on the borough website from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Fish and Wildlife on bear facts and bear safety tips: www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/pdf/bear/bearfacts_safetytips.pdf and www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/bebearaware.pdf
