East Brunswick Library will hold online event on healthy eating habits

The East Brunswick Public Library will hold a free online program titled “Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables” at noon on July 17.

This program is led by New Jersey SNAP-Ed nutrition educators, Victoria Galarza and Zakiya Stewart. New Jersey SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education), is a federally funded nutrition and physical activity program administered as a collaboration between the New Jersey Department of Human Services and the Department of Health.

The program shares healthy eating skills and strategies for planning more balanced meals while sticking to a low budget.

The New Jersey SNAP-Ed includes nutrition education, interactive activities and discusses recipes for adults to make at home for their families. The online class will be focusing on the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables and how to increase daily consumption.

A New Jersey native with a passion for helping people, Stewart got her start at the College of Saint Elizabeth, where she received her bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition. Currently, she is a nutrition educator with the SNAP-Ed program, where she teaches cooking and fitness classes to children and young adults.

Registration is required for this free program; it is limited to 25 attendees.

Attendees do not have to live in East Brunswick or have a library card from East Brunswick Public Library.

This free program is offered by SNAP-ED through the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
