The 125-acre campus, once home to Bristol-Myers Squibb, has been renovated into a modern workspace including, state-of-the-art offices and translational research laboratories. The facility will house biotechnology experts in the discovery, development and commercialization of antibody products that have the potential to transform cancer treatment, according to information provided by Genmab US.

“Our location in New Jersey’s ever-dynamic and innovative life-sciences ecosystem allows us to leverage the local high-skilled labor market where we can continue our growth trajectory in a setting that supports our ambitions to nurture Genmab’s corporate culture in a new and vibrant workplace environment that aligns with our company vision,” Chris Cozic, corporate vice president of Global Human Resources for Genmab said in the statement.

As the pandemic hit while the new offices and labs were under final construction and renovations, employees in New Jersey worked remotely per local guidance. The teams then adapted plans to set up the labs and made sure the move was safe for employees while being able to continue important work on cancer research, according to the statement.

Cozic shared the challenges of setting up a translational research lab in the middle of a pandemic.

“Our purpose is to improve the lives of patients with cancer by creating and developing innovative and differentiated antibody products. It was essential for us to set up labs quickly to continue our work on developing cancer therapeutics, but our priority was to do it cautiously while keeping in mind the public health guidance on COVID-19. We would like to thank our research and innovation team members for their continued support,” he said in the statement.

Genmab is a publicly traded, international biotechnology company that has expanded its employee base in New Jersey in the last two years from 36 in July 2018 to now more than 165 and growing, according to the statement.
