Suspect in custody in South Brunswick shooting

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A township man has been charged in the shooting which took place on July 11 in the vicinity of the Royal Oaks Apartments.

Jahmil Alvarez, 19, of the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, was apprehended on July 12 and is charged with first degree attempted murder, second degree aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, both second degree crimes, according to the statement released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Raymond J. Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department on July 13.

South Brunswick police responded to the shooting which took place in the vicinity of the Royal Oaks Apartments, located at 200 Henderson Road in Monmouth Junction, on July 11 at approximately 3:59 p.m. An 18-year-old Monmouth Junction man was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and was treated for gunshot wounds, according to the statement.

Alvarez will be held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a detention hearing, according to the statement.
