Jamesburg council introduces ordinance for various road improvements

JAMESBURG–Planning to fix roads in need of repair, the Borough Council introduced an ordinance, which if adopted, will provide $937,209 in funding for improvements to various streets.

Borough Administrator Scott Frueh said once the ordinance is adopted, officials plan to improve Grand Street and a portion of McKnight Avenue between Lincoln Avenue and Sherman Street.

“We will be milling and paving both roads and in some cases updating Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps at corners of the roads,” Frueh said.

In order to pay for the road improvements, Frueh said the borough applied for and has received a New Jersey Department of Transportation grant for the work.

The council approved and introduced the ordinance on July 15 during the council meeting via video conference. The second and final reading is scheduled for Aug. 19.

In related news, the council also introduced an ordinance to provide $769,550 in funding for improvements to Oakland Road and Lake Street.

“My public works manager is looking at our roads constantly. From the inspections, we determine which roads need repair,” Frueh said. “Some roads may wear out faster than others. So these were the roads that were due this period of time.”

Frueh said the borough also plans to mill and pave both roads and in some cases update ADA ramps at corners of the roads.

“Once the ordinance is adopted, we will have our engineering firm prepare bid specs and go out to bid,” Frueh said.

Frueh said the improvements will begin at the end of this year or the beginning of next year depending on the weather.
