East Windsor residents who want to clean out their files and shred personal papers may do so at the township’s Document Shredding Day, set for July 29 at the East Windsor Township Senior Center.
The free event, which is limited to East Windsor residents, will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the senior center at 40 Lannigan Blvd., off Princeton-Hightstown Road/Route 571.
Township residents can bring up to 10 boxes of documents to be shredded, allowing them to dispose of unwanted and unneeded documents, Mayor Janice S. Mironov said in a statement.
No commercial entities are permitted.
Residents must bring proof of residency by displaying a valid driver’s license or a property tax bill. They can show their driver’s license or property tax bill to event staff through the car’s window.
The dropoff will be contactless, and residents must stay in their cars. When they reach the dropoff point, the driver must unlock the trunk or rear doors to the trained staff – wearing face masks and gloves – will be able to remove the items from the trunk or rear seat.
Residents should wear a face mask at the time of the event. If at all possible, only the driver should be in the car when dropping off items to be shredded. It would be preferable if there were no other passengers or pets in the car, township officials said.
“This is a great opportunity for East Windsor residents to dispose of old or confidential documents in a secure manner,” Mironov said in the statement.
Shredding provides a non-recoverable tool that provides confidentiality and helps to prevent identity theft, Mironov said.
