Ellie Hawkey and Jayne McGrath, standout members of The Pennington School Varsity Girls Soccer team and members of the Class of 2020, have been named Scholar All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches.

The Scholar All-America award is one of the highest honors bestowed at the high school level. The award recognizes outstanding achievement on the field coupled with extraordinary academic performance, according to a prepared statement.

To become a Scholar All-American, the student-athlete must meet select criteria established by the United Soccer Coaches organization. Criteria include maintaining a high GPA throughout high school, demonstrating recognized excellence in high school soccer, and performing community service at the local, regional, or national level, according to the statement.

Hawkey, a striker, and McGrath, a defender, have been exceptional members of the girls soccer program throughout their four years at Pennington. This past fall, the duo helped the team add to their state championship total by winning the program’s fifteenth NJISAA Prep A title. They also led the team in picking up their 11th Mercer County Tournament championship.

Hawkey and McGrath graduated from The Pennington School on June 6. In the fall, McGrath, of Lawrenceville, will play soccer for Gettysburg College. Hawkey, who hails from Pennington, will continue her studies at the University of Pittsburgh.
