East Brunswick Fire Department puts out truck fire on Route 18; incident under ‘active criminal investigation’

EAST BRUNSWICK–East Brunswick Police Department patrol units responded to the scene of a box truck on fire after receiving a 911 call at 12:58 p.m. on July 27, located near 252 Route 18.

Patrol units, along with East Brunswick Fire Department No. 2 and county HazMat, responded to the scene, according to a prepared statement from the East Brunswick Police Department.

The fire caused damage to power lines, which eventually came down in the roadway. Old Bridge Turnpike was closed as well as two lanes of Route 18 northbound, near Edgeboro Road, according to police.

These roadways were closed until the fire was extinguished and the power could be disconnected, according to police.

The circumstances surrounding this event are an active criminal investigation so that no further details can be released about the driver of the truck, according to police.
