More than 30 blood donors supported the Old Bridge Elks during a community blood drive held by New York Blood Center at the lodge on July 16; pictured is Rosana Tabakci. One unit of blood can help up to three different patients, so 126 lives will be impacted from this blood drive. To assist in recruiting blood donors, email SLynch@nybc.org. New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) is issuing an urgent call for healthy blood donors to donate blood from 1:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Hightstown American Legion, 895 Route 130 north, East Windsor.

Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins will be taken if social distancing can be maintained. Visit donate.nybc.org or call/text 800-933-BLOOD.

The need for blood has rebounded to pre-COVID-19 levels, but maintaining the blood supply is particularly challenging as the pandemic continues. In order to maintain a safe blood supply, a seven-day inventory of all blood types must be continually replenished. Right now, reserves are far below that minimum, according to information provided by NJBS.

Donors can schedule appointments by calling 1-800-933-2566 or visiting www.nybc.org.
