SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Crews have made progress clearing most roadways and restoring power to more than 90% of South Brunswick, according to information provided around 5 p.m. Aug. 6.

The power companies estimate 250 homes and businesses remain without power. The number of road closures has been reduced to two and the number of intersections without power has been decreased to two. Motorists are reminder not to drive around barricades or cones on closed roads.

As of 4 p.m., Route 27 between Kingston Terrace and Promenade Boulevard; and Friendship Road between New Road and Broadway Road are closed. Traffic lights are still out at Route 535/Davidson Mill Road and Route 535/Middlesex Center Boulevard.

Storms are expected to begin at 3 a.m. tonight, lasting through around noon tomorrow, with 2-4 inches of rain and street flooding possible, according to the statement.

A front will lift north and set up somewhere across Central New Jersey, likely focusing showers and thunderstorms late tonight through Friday morning. The exact placement of this front and resulting for heavy rain is somewhat uncertain, however most signs point towards it being over or very close to the area. The main concern would be poor drainage/roadway flooding as well as some smaller streams.

As a whole, the severe risk is quite minimal, however given the soft soil, some highly localized tree damage can result from lower gusts than normal, according to the statement. Activity tapers late morning and into midday Aug. 7.
