Morris, McLaughlin earn Republican nominations in Millstone Township

MILLSTONE – Two newcomers have been tapped by voters to represent the Millstone Township Republican Party in the Nov. 3 election for two three-year terms on the Township Committee.

A contested Republican primary took place on July 7. The Republican nominations were sought by incumbent Township Committeeman Michael Kuczinski and newcomers Christopher Morris and Michael McLaughlin.

Republican Fiore Masci, who is serving as mayor in 2020, did not seek re-election.

In the primary election, Morris and McLaughlin emerged as the Republican nominees for the November general election.

Morris received 829 votes and McLaughlin received 639 votes to earn the nominations, while Kuczinski received 566 votes, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.

A simple majority of representatives of the Millstone Republican County Executive Committee had endorsed Morris and Kuczinski for the nominations.

Anthony Conoscenti, the chairman of Millstone’s Republican Party, said that as of Aug. 11, the party’s leaders were not certain what will happen with the general election.

Conoscenti said McLaughlin has informed him he is interested in pursuing the committee seat. He said the party’s leaders will make a decision regarding a possible endorsement for McLaughlin in September.

Republicans hold all five seats on the Township Committee.

Democrat Raymond D. Dothard Jr. was selected through the write-in process in the July 7 primary to run for a seat on the Township Committee. A separate article covers the Democratic primary.
