Hillsborough welcomes three officers, promotes corporal to sergeant

Hillsborough welcomed three new police officers and promoted one officer to sergeant on Aug. 11.

Hillsborough welcomed three new police officers and promoted one officer to sergeant.

“Recent retirements resulted in various vacancies within the police department. Upon the conclusion of a thorough search and interview process of very capable candidates, the following officers were selected to be hired: Frank Polizzi, Justin Tesorio and Eric Lisanti,” Mayor Doug Tomson said during the Aug. 11 committee meeting.

Polizzi, 26, resides in the Colonia section of Woodbridge. He previously worked as a police officer at the Rutgers Police Department, according to information provided by the township.

Tesorio, 21, resides in Jamesburg. He previously worked as a police officer with Princeton University Public Safety Department, according to the statement.

Lisanti, 22, resides in Belle Meade. He previously worked as a Class II Special Officer for the Union City Police Department, according to the statement.

“Congratulations to the officers upon their completion of the unconventional yet extensive interviewing process. Welcome to the Hillsborough community. I would also like to extend my congratulations to Sergeant [Thomas] McLain, ” Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Public Safety liaison, said during the meeting.

“The Hillsborough Township Police Department looks forward to having these new officers join our ranks,” Hillsborough Township Police Chief Mike McMahon said in the statement.

As a result of the current public health crisis and COVID-19 pandemic, township meetings are not open to the public. The officers were joined by their families earlier in the day for the ceremonial swearing in. Tomson and McCauley attended the swearing in ceremony, according to the statement.

Sgt. Thomas McLain is a 21-year veteran of the Hillsborough Township Police Department and, during his career, worked as an officer in the Patrol Division from 1999 to 2003, in the Investigative Division as senior resource officer from 2003-04, was appointed corporal in the Patrol Division from 2016-17, and Investigative Division/Juvenile where he is currently working, according to the statement.

McLain has received many command citations, commendations, letters of appreciation, and performance notices, for a number of jobs well-done throughout his 21 years of service with the department.

“Congratulations to Sgt. McLain on his promotion. We thank him for his years of dedicated service to the community,” McMahon said in the statement.
