WALL TOWNSHIP – With the area’s power restored after a mid-week storm, auto racing, which will feature Modified stock cars and Midget car racing, will take center stage on the speedway and community heroes will be honored in the grandstands as Wall Stadium Speedway presents “First Responders Night” on Aug. 8.

On the track, five divisions will compete, while in the grandstands the men and women who serve the community as police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and lifeguards will be admitted to the spectator area with a $5 discount with proper identification, according to a press release.

And, the memory of long-time speedway supporter and photographer John John Lane will be honored. Lane passed away of natural causes during the off-season.

Grandstand seating will open at 4:30 p.m. and qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. The evening’s main event action will follow at 7 p.m.

On the one-third-mile, high-banked paved oval, the Modifieds will be in the spotlight in a 40-lap main event, according to the press release.

Early season winners Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Jimmy Blewett of Howell, along with top drivers Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Jackson’s Steven Reed, Ron Frees of Lanoka Harbor and Jason Treat of Jackson, are expected to see action.

The Sportsman cars, the Factory Stocks and the Legend Cars are all slated to compete in 25-lap feature races. The open cockpit TQ Midgets of the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association will race in a 25-lapper on the “inner oval,” according to the press release.

The Aug. 8 schedule will see the competitor pit area open at 12:30 p.m., with paid practice set for 2-3 p.m. Regular practice will start at 3 p.m., while spectator seating will open at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying for the night’s program starts at 5:30 p.m. and main events will follow at 7 p.m.

The speedway is on Route 34 in Wall Township. The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400. For more information, visit wallspeedwayracing.com
