SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville Borough Council has introduced a bond ordinance that will appropriate $4 million towards improving borough roads and drainage.
On Aug. 17, council members adopted the bond ordinance that will, if adopted, provide for the $4 million appropriation allocated towards the improvements. The bond ordinance will also authorize the issuance of $3.55 million in bonds or notes to finance a portion of the appropriation.
The remaining costs of the $4 million appropriation will be covered by a $450,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT), according to the bond ordinance. As a result of the DOT grant, no down payment from the borough will be made to help finance the improvements.
According to the bond ordinance, the improvements authorized include Albert Street, Avon Way, Church Street, Ernston Road, French Street, Heims Lane, Midnight Street, Smullen Street, Sophie Street, Stratford Way and Vernon Way.
The funds will also be used toward the improvement of the drainage on Albert Street and French Street.
A public hearing on the bond ordinance is scheduled for Sept. 14. The council may adopt the bond ordinance that evening.
In other business, council members passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of backup servers for Borough Hall and the Public Safety Complex in an amount not to exceed $39,863.
Council members also passed a resolution authorizing the acceptance of funds for a $2,400 grant to the Sayreville Municipal Alliance, to be used between July 1 and Sept. 30.
Additionally, the council passed a resolution authorizing a contract in an amount not to exceed $30,000 to Tactical Public Safety for preliminary site work and engineering for the police department radio microwave project.
In other business, council members passed a resolution requesting approval to insert a 2021 pedestrian safety grant in the amount of $23,160 into the 2020 municipal budget.
The council also passed a resolution approving a $26,565 increase in the $1.11 million contract awarded to Z Brothers Concrete Contractors, Inc. for the Hercules Village roadway paving and reconstruction project. The change order is the first approved by the governing body.
Finally, the council passed nine separate resolutions approving the renewal of liquor licenses for the following businesses: Columbian Club, Inc.; Columbus Club, Inc.; The Ale House Tap & Pub, LLC; Fidelity Funding Corp./Brass Monkey Pub; Parlin Bar & Liquor, LLC; Jahanvi Mehta; Shiv Akshar, LLC; Sayreville PRII; and Arlecchino, Inc. (t/a Pulcinella Italian Restaurant & Pizza).
