Wanted: Nominations of East Windsor Township businesses that have contributed to the community.

That’s what East Windsor Township officials are seeking for the township’s 2020 Business Awards program. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 25.

The purpose of the annual program is to recognize local businesses that have made special efforts to improve or contribute to East Windsor, said Mayor Janice S. Mirnov.

There are three categories: Business Beautification, Community Service and Community Enhancement, Mironov said.

Business Beautification is about creating an attractive appearance through landscaping, flowers and other enhancements to a business’s building and site.

Community Service means providing for community contributions and service.

Community Enhancement is providing any community value-added aspect related to the business, such as extraordinary job creation or an unusual or special product or opportunity.

Green and sustainable practices, green products, energy conservation, and the reduction of waste and energy consumption will be given more weight in considering the award winners.

“The Business Awards program was created to give well-deserved recognition to businesses which have made special efforts to enhance our community,” Mironov said. “It also highlights the importance our community places on local business owners and operators.”

Past award winners for the Beautification Award have included the East Windsor Village shopping center on Princeton-Hightstown Road. Kimco Realty, which owns the shopping center, was recognized for its ongoing enhancements to the grounds and landscaping.

Past Community Service Award winners also have included Berkshire Bank for its support, through the Berkshire Bank Foundation, of the township’s summer concert series, the Easter egg hunt and the Independence Day/Fourth of July celebration.

Also, the Exeter Property Group received the Community Enhancement Award for redeveloping the former National Lead site on Wyckoff Mills Road. Modway Furniture, which is a major distributor of furniture and office furnishings, and moved into a new 634,000-square-foot building on the site.

Other winners of the Community Enhancement Award include Shiseido America, which was recognized for its green and sustainable measures. The company installed rooftop and ground-based solar panels.

Nomination forms are available at the East Windsor Township Municipal Building on Lannigan Boulevard, at the Hickory Corner and Twin Rivers branch public libraries, and posted online at www.east-windsor.nj.us.

A selection committee will review all nominations and select the business awardees. The awards to businesses selected will be made at a Township Council meeting.
