Hopewell Theater will not reopen after Murphy gives green light

Even though Gov. Phil Murphy is allowing performance centers and entertainment businesses to reopen, Hopewell Theater will not be one of them.
The theater announced on Sept. 4 that it will remain closed to patrons as they continue to find ways to operate during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“The governor is now allowing venues like ours the opportunity to reopen at 25% capacity. For us that would mean 64 people per show. Given how much we’ve lost and how much we miss you, it is really tempting to reopen,” said Sara Scully, founder and executive director of Hopewell Theater. “But after considerable thought, it’s clear to us that reopening with these restrictions will not enable us to restore our operations, and to treat you, our valued patron, to the experience you’ve come to expect at Hopewell Theater.”
The theater will use this time to consider how they can adapt and evolve during the pandemic, exploring ways the theater can sustainably present artists at its present capacity.
“We continue to be inspired by artists and our fellow arts presenters that are innovating to reach fans in new ways. We will be in touch as circumstances change,” she said.
