A three-week investigation into a serious motor vehicle crash has resulted in a 23-year-old South Brunswick man being charged with drunk driving and assault by auto.
The crash took place on Aug. 15 at 2:03 a.m. on Promenade Boulevard at Princeton Walk Boulevard and involved a motorcycle and a car, according to information provided on Sept. 4 by Chief Raymond J. Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department.
The South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau determined the 23-year-old was driving a 2013 Honda Accord southbound on Princeton Walk Boulevard when he came to a stop sign at Promenade Boulevard.
He entered the intersection to turn left and collided with a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle that was headed westbound on Promenade Boulevard, according to reports.
The motorcycle driver, a 20-year-old male from South Brunswick, suffered serious head and spinal injuries and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He remained hospitalized, as of press time.
Police officers administered field sobriety tests to the driver of the Accord on scene and later obtained a search warrant for his blood, according to the statement. The blood sample was sent to the New Jersey State Police lab for analysis. The results were returned this week. He is charged with a third degree count of assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury and driving while under the influence, as well as other motor vehicle charges.
“This crash just reminds every one of the dangers of drinking and driving. Two lives will forever be altered by this crash,” Hayducka said in the statement. “Please keep Justin and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he continues his long recovery.”
