OLD BRIDGE – A grocery store is expected to become an anchor store in the Old Bridge Gateway Shopping Center.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment approved waivers for Heritage OB Ryan LLC at a meeting on Sept. 3 to demolish the Modell’s Sporting Goods store portion of the shopping center at the intersection of Ernston Road and Route 9.

Jennifer Phillips Smith, attorney for the applicant, said with Modell’s going out of business, the applicant proposes to configure the location into a slightly larger configuration to attract a new anchor tenant.

The original Modell’s site is 32,657 square feet. The new configuration will bring the site to 39,112 square feet. Along with the new configuration, the applicant plans for restriping and realigning of the front portion of existing stores.
