Navesink Maritime Heritage Association is inviting families and youngsters age 12 and over to build wooden canoes in the open air at its Grover House headquarters, 930 West Front Street, Red Bank, on Sept. 26-27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Each canoe will be built by a team of four to five people, comprised of adults and youths, plus one experienced instructor. Teams are created each day depending upon the number and ages of the attendees, according to a press release.
All materials, tools and skilled help are provided. Teams are asked to stay for both days so they can finish their canoe. Breakfast and a BBQ lunch are provided each day for $20 per person for the weekend. Face coverings and social distancing are required. Pre-registration is required at NavesinkMaritime.Org/Events before Sept. 25.
On Sept. 22 at 7 p.m., the League of Women Voters will hold a webinar about voting in the time of COVID entitled “The Truth About Vote By Mail.”
Guest speakers from the NYU Brennan Center and the Monmouth County Board of Elections will discuss the safety of voting by mail.
The nonpartisan panel will explore the historic evidence and explain the safeguards in place to protect the security of the ballot and the accuracy of the count.
Interested participants must register for the forum at lwvsmc.org by clicking on the big red “Forums and Webinars Register” button and choosing “Hot Topic: The Truth about Vote-by-Mail.” All are invited to participate. A chat function will enable everyone to ask questions, according to a press release.
