METUCHEN – Police have made two arrests in the past week after a rash of car burglaries and thefts in the borough.
Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Pearl Street during the early morning hours of Sept. 11, police said in a social media post on Sept. 12.
The description of the person was similar to the person allegedly wanted for previously stealing a car from Metuchen on a previous date, police said.
When police located the suspect, he allegedly had more than $190 in loose change, as well as other items in his possession. The person was charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft including the earlier car theft, police said.
On Sept. 9, police charged a 20-year-old man for allegedly entering unlocked vehicles and taking items from inside of them. Police reportedly witnessed the man at 10:25 a.m. attempting to enter one vehicle and then attempting to enter a different vehicle parking in a parking lot at 499 Main St., police said.
At the time of his arrest, the man allegedly had sunglasses, a wristwatch, gift cards and money in his possession, police said.
