EDISON – Edison officials reported seven new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of cases to 2,128, according to the Edison Office of Emergency Management on Sept. 13.
The age range of the new cases are from three to 54. The township has lost 239 residents to COVID-19, according to Middlesex County.
Talmadge Road at the Northeast Corridor Train Underpass will be closed due to utility work effective 5 a.m. on Sept. 15. Utility work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m.
Traffic travelling on Talmadge Road from New Durham Road will be directed to turn right onto Brunswick Avenue and then left onto Plainfield
Avenue.
Traffic travelling on Talmadge Road from Route 27/Lincoln Highway will be directed to continue on Route 27 south, turning right onto Plainfield Avenue, and then right onto Brunswick Avenue.
Businesses on or directly off Talmadge Road between Route 27/Lincoln Highway and the underpass shall have access to Talmadge Road off Route 27/Lincoln Highway.
Businesses on or directly off Talmadge Road between Brunswick Avenue and the underpass will have access to Talmadge Road off of New Durham Road, Brunswick Avenue and Ethel Road.
Detour signs and police officers will be on site to assist motorists.
The township announced dates for the 2020 fall clean-up. Regular recycle day for recycle sections one and six on Monday – Sept. 12, regular recycle day for recycle sections two and seven on Tuesday – Sept. 13, regular recycle day for recycle sections three and eight on Wednesday – Sept. 26, regular recycle day for recycle sections four and nine on Thursday – Oct. 3, and regular recycle day for recycle sections five and 10 on Friday – Oct. 10.
The Edison’s Department of Public Works personnel are diligently working to clean up roadways following Tropical Storm Isaias. Residents, businesses are asked to pile storm debris at curbside. Clean ups will continue over the next several weeks.
The Edison Senior Center, 2963 Woodbridge Avenue, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday as a cooling center. Those using the cooling center will be required to wear a face covering and will have their temperature taken along with providing contact information. The Edison Public main library at 340 Plainfield Ave., reopened on July 13. Patrons must wear face masks. Gov. Phil Murphy announced public libraries are allowed to reopen on July 2 with 25% capacity.
The reopening of the north branch library at 777 Grove Ave. began on July 27 and the Clara Barton branch at 141 Hoover Ave. followed. Hours vary at each site.
No seating and study tables at the library will be available. No meetings or programs will be held at least through Labor Day. The Edison Public Library has launched a COVID memory project. Residents are welcome to share their experiences during the coronavirus through a questionnaire and any images and videos documenting experiences. Mayor Thomas Lankey issued an executive order ahead of the reopening of outdoor dining on June 15. The executive order, which will run through Oct. 31, allows restaurants and food establishments to eliminate up to 20% of their existing onsite parking to accommodate tables for consumption of food and beverages. Hours of operation for outdoor dining will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the township reserves the right to review and revoke approval of applications. Indoor dining at 25% capacity – no more than 100 patrons – began on Sept. 4.
The Edison Farmers Market is open from 1-3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Jade Dynasty parking lot, 925 Amboy Ave., through October. The township has resumed the collection of cardboard from outside of the recycling container on regular recycling days.
