East Brunswick Library will hold voter registration event Sept. 22

EAST BRUNSWICK–With Election Day less than 50 days away, the East Brunswick Public Library will hold a voter registration event for residents from 12:30-5:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the library, located at 2 Jean Walling Civic Center Dr.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Christopher Barnes, the coordinator of Marketing, Communication and Outreach for the library, said the voter registration event will take place in a tent outside the front of the library.

“We will have paper voter registration forms available, as well as on online kiosk as well. The library will be mailing out the paper registration forms at the end of the day,” Barnes said. “Staff will also show everyone how they can trace the status of their mail-in ballot and other election-related services.”

Barnes said anyone who stops by must wear a mask. The library is also encouraging social distancing and has hand sanitizer to share.

“With 2020 being an election year, this is part of our ‘Path to 2020 Election’ series of programs about the election process. The next program in this series is ‘Who Really Elects the President: the Workings of the Electoral College’ at 7 p.m. Oct. 27,” Barnes said.

Barnes said this presentation explores how the Electoral College was created by the founding fathers as a way to manage an unruly public and, if needed, overturn the election results. It will be presented online using Zoom.
