East Brunswick police search for suspect who drove car into elementary school

EAST BRUNSWICK–The East Brunswick Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a driver who drove through Bowne Munro Elementary.

On Sept. 9, officers responded to Bowne Munro Elementary School located on Main Street for the report of criminal mischief, according to a prepared statement from the police department.

Upon arrival, officers observed the main entrance to the school was pushed in and multiple windows on the front door were broken, according to police.
Surveillance video of the incident showed that at approximately 4:30 a.m. a dark-colored newer model Jeep Liberty or older model Jeep Commander entered the school parking lot and parked near the front entrance of the school. The vehicle then waited for approximately eight minutes before leaving, according to police.
As the vehicle began to travel toward the exit, it stopped, reversed, lined up with the front door, and drove forward into the school’s front doors, according to police.
Lt. Frank Sutter said there is no new information about the suspect, as of press time on Sept. 18.
