SAYREVILLE – More than $900,000 in technology supplies have been purchased by the Sayreville School District to provide students with laptop computers.
On Sept. 15, the Board of Education approved the purchase of the technology supplies at a total cost of $912,476. The supplies were composed of 3,994 HP Chromebook laptop computers, 3,994 Google Chromebook License installers and 3,994 White Glove Service software installers.
According to district administrators, the unit costs of each supply were $196 for the computers, $25 for the Google Chromebook License installation and $5 for the White Glove Service software. Combined, the computers were $786,618, the license installers were $101,847 and the software installers were $23,964 for the $912,476 total.
Prior to approving the purchase, board members approved the submission of a Digital Divide Grant application and the acceptance of the grant in the amount of $912,476. The grant was subsequently utilized to purchase the technology supplies in the same amount.
In other business, the board approved submission of an application to the Middlesex County Superintendent of Schools for the use of substandard educational spaces during the 2020-21 school year, where the coronavirus pandemic remains an issue.
At the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, district administrators are seeking to use four rooms as toilet room facilities for kindergarten classrooms and the auditorium as instructional space. At the Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School, district administrators are seeking to utilize one room as toilet room facilities for kindergarten first grade resource classrooms.
District administrators are also seeking to use four rooms as toilet room facilities for kindergarten classrooms at the Emma Arleth Elementary School and one room as toilet room facilities for kindergarten classrooms at the Harry S. Truman Elementary School.
At the Samsel Upper Elementary School, which houses Project Before Preschool, district administrators are seeking to use eight rooms as toilet room facilities for pre-kindergarten classrooms. District administrators are seeking to utilize 13 rooms as toilet room facilities for pre-kindergarten classrooms at Project Before at Cheesequake.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sayreville schools are currently physically closed to students. Students have been receiving virtual instruction during the 2020-21 school year.
