SOUTH RIVER–As part of the South River Public Schools District’s reopening plan, all schools will begin a hybrid schedule today, Oct. 1.
Since the district’s first day of school on Sept. 9, all students had been following a full remote learning schedule.
On Oct. 1, Superintendent Sylvia Zircher said approximately 70% of the school district’s student population will be back in person on a hybrid schedule, while 30% have opted to continue on a full remote instruction program.
“I believe everyone (teachers, parents, students) are doing their best to adjust to a new learning environment,” Zircher said. “We all have hesitations about returning to school safely while balancing these with the understanding that students need to return to school and regain a sense of normalcy and access to a comprehensive educational program.”
Zircher said if someone needs to visit any of the schools for any reason, they must call ahead for an appointment, and wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
If the school district is informed of a positive COVID-19 test, Zircher said the district will contact the health department immediately so it may begin the process of contact tracing, and the district may inform the impacted individuals.
“We will also follow all of the guidelines provided in the Health Department’s Guide for K-12 schools,” Zircher said.
