ALLENTOWN – Municipal officials reported this week that the construction of Allentown’s new waste water treatment plant on Breza Road remains on schedule.
The news comes several weeks after Borough Council members authorized the latest payments for work that has been completed on the project by Pact Two, LLC.
Regarding the ongoing construction, officials said crews from PSE&G were on site in September to install a new pole and transformers and they reported the new service is nearly complete. The installation of new wire will be completed after the contractor installs the new electrical panels and transformer in the control building.
A temporary treatment system has been installed and is in operation. The system is acting as a primary clarifier. The existing primary clarifiers have been drained and cleaned, according to information posted on the municipal website.
Borough officials said demolition started during the last week of September and is anticipated to be completed by the end of the second week in October. The new bar screen channel is approximately 75% complete. The new sludge collection pits/pump stations are approximately 60% complete.
The IFAS (integrated fixed-film activated sludge) tank is being fitted with new mechanical equipment. Air diffusers and screens were installed during the last week of September.
According to municipal officials, the contractor remains on schedule to meet deadlines that have been imposed through an Administrative Consent Order issued by the state and no new fines have been assessed against Allentown.
During a recent council meeting, members of the governing body authorized payments No. 5 and No. 6 to be paid to Pact Two, LLC. The payments covered work that had been completed through Aug. 30, according to a resolution.
Payment No. 5 was for yard piping, IFAS materials, concrete work, and equipment for
the clarifiers, screen, pump stations and splitter boxes in an amount not to exceed
$328,835.
Payment No. 6 was for yard piping, precast structures, yard valves, electrical
demolition and work at the control building, materials for the IFAS tank, a temporary
treatment system, precast concrete for the primary clarifier and primary screening, and
materials for the clarifiers and pump stations in an amount not to exceed $527,072.
